In brief, the practice of Dharma is to sever all that ties to samsara, to cultivate gentle love and compassion for all beings of the six realms, and at all times, without distraction, to thoroughly master your own mind.

    -Jamyang Khyentse Chokyi Lodro.

    8 [del]

Patience is uncomfortable but in the end, you will have no regret.

    -RINPOCHE, Phakchok.

    9 [del]

But what is passion, what are emotions? There is the source of fire, there is the fullness of energy. A man who is not on fire is nothing: he is ridiculous, he is two-dimensional. He must be on fire even if he does make a fool of himself. A flame must burn somewhere, otherwise no light shines; there is no warmth, nothing.

    -JUNG, Carl.

Books say: She did this because. Life says: She did this. Books are where things are explained to you; life is where things aren’t. I’m not surprised some people prefer books.

Nature is busy creating absolutely unique individuals, whereas culture has invented a single mold to which all must conform. It is grotesque.

    13 [del]

My life is quiet. There is little beside working and walking. I have no desire to see people, and I feel as though I am waiting for something new and strange wich will burn the unburnt side of my soul.

~GIBRAN, Khalil, from Beloved Prophet: The love letters of Kahlil Gibran and Marry Haskell, and her private journal

    14 [del]

It takes a huge effort to free yourself from memory.

    15 [del]

So I drank one, it became four, and when I fell on the floor I drank more. Nothing has changed, I still love you, I still love you.

    ~Morrissey.

    16 [del]

When I say be creative, I don’t mean that you should all go and become great painters and great poets. I simply mean let your life be a painting, let your life be a poem.

    17 [del]

Be mindful of your Self-Talk. It’s a conversation with the Universe.

    18 [del]

It never ceases to amaze me: We all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinions than our own.

    ~Marcus Aurelius.

    19 [del]

“You’re asking me what I want for breakfast and I’m telling you about how when the worst thing happened, I didn’t even cry. You’re handing me a receipt from the laundromat down the street and I’m passing you a bundle of letters that I wrote to God when I was fourteen and scared. You’re passing me the milk after you drip it into your coffee and I’m half laughing about my psychiatrist’s office and how there’s actually a couch and it’s made of blue tweed. You’re trying to do the normal things and I am throwing up dull pieces of truth onto our kitchen table. I can’t lie anymore. These are the things I’ve done and they’re mostly sad. These are the places I’ve been and they’re mostly awful. This life has woven itself into the notches of my spine and I hear it creak every time I stand.”

    ~ LATIFI, Fortesa.

    20 [del]

When love is unreliable and you are a child, you assume that it is the nature of love – its quality – to be unreliable. Children do not find fault with their parents until later. In the beginning the love you get is the love that sets.

~WINTERSON, Jeanette, Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?

    21 [del]

We walk into every fire. Every water. Every river of blood. Simply in order not to have to see.

    To see what, then? Ourselves.

from Cassandra: A Novel & Four Essays

    I leave, I leave—
At the end of this story,
    I walk into the sea
    and it chooses
    not to drown me.

    — YUN, Jihyun, from "The Leaving Season," Some Are Always Hungry

    27 [del]

The best way to keep a prisoner from escaping prison is to make sure he never knows he's in prison.

    —DOSTOEVSKY, Fyodor.

    28 [del]

in the water of certain rivers there
    is a wild happiness

    in Yosemite Valley,
with the color of the Pacific still
trailing in my eyes, I buried
the essential and the inessential. That
    happiness will survive my death

    — ADNAN, Etel, from "October 27, 2003", Time

    29 [del]

A language is not just words. It’s a culture, a tradition, a unification of a community, a whole history that creates what a community is. It’s all embodied in a language.

    —CHOMSKY, Noam.

    30 [del]

Nothing ever ends poetically. It ends and we turn it into poetry. All that blood was never once beautiful. It was always just red.

    — ROKOWSKI, Kait

    31 [del]

It’s more possible to win an argument against someone who’s smarter than you than someone who’s not.

It's your privilege to find me incomprehensible. I gave you my minutes; let them remain ours. I hope I haunt you.

    — ROETHKE, Theodore, from Straw for the fire

    34 [del]

Being a language can be rough. One day you're the dominant mode of communication in the region, the next day you find yourself usurped, replaced, all too aware you're heading for extintion the moment the people start calling you "quaint".

    Google traducshon:

All the hardest, coldest people you meet were once as soft as water. And that’s the tragedy of living.

~THOMAS, Iain, I Wrote This For You.

    39 [del]

The mind is constantly trying to figure out what page it’s on in the story of itself. Close the book. Burn the bookmark. End of story. Now the dancing begins.

    ~NARASAKI, Ikko.

    40 [del]

BEETLEJUICE: —Am I going too far?

LYDIA: —No, no, no. You went too far about seven hours ago. Now you're going to prison.

    42 [del]

Oh Lord, my grief is like a / river inside me; filled / with dead things I didn't / kill.

~Ó TUAMA, Pádraig, from "Jesus Texts", When Did We See You Naked?: Jesus as a Victim of Sexual Abuse, ed. Jayme R. Reaves, David Tombs, and Rocío Figueroa.

    43 [del]

I only know I’m living in the interval between
The luxuries of consciousness and the straits of sorrow,
A bare condition of mere being in which nothing changes
And a life is just the sum of its details as it slowly slips away.

~KOETHE, John, from On Being Dead. Beyond Belief: Poems (Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, 2022)

    44 [del]
